In 1972, the D 13006 A replaced the unsuccessful D 12006 A.
Like its predecessor, the D 13006 A was only offered in Europe as a four-wheel drive version.
The rear-wheel drive version was reserved for the American and Canadian markets.
In contrast to the D 12006 A, Deutz used a further developed ZF engine, a SIGE steering drive axle and an in-house power lift.
The D 13006 A was equipped with a Fritzmeier cab as standard.
From 1976 onwards, a special version with an elastically mounted Fritzmeier cab could be ordered as an option.
